Kendall & Keira {ADORABLE Newborn & Sister Session}

I was so excited when I was asked to take pictures of these two little ladies. Kendall was 8 days old at this session and big sister Keira was very proud to show off her new little sister.  With my kiddos beyond the baby and even toddler stages, I love any opportunity to hold and snuggle with a new baby. Kendall was absolutely perfect during her newborn session.  She slept soundly for the first half of pictures and let me pose her without batting an eye!  Miss Keira was a natural at posing for the camera.  These little ladies were just ADORABLE!  Thanks for sharing them with me Ben and Kayla!

Woodrow {3rd Birthday}

I had the honor of taking Woodrow's 3 year pictures.  I met his family in the fall when I took his older brother Gus' pictures.  We had planned for outdoor pictures but a blizzard hit the day pictures were scheduled.  We tried a few quick outdoor shots but Woodrow was cold and miserable so inside to the warm and cozy studio we went!  Woodrow is an adorably handsome little boy who at 3 is not so sure about having his pictures taken.  He only shared a few smiles with me despite all my silly tricks!

Aren't those brown eyes adorable!?

Contentment

It's been a while since my last blog post.  The reason for this is because the winter months tend to slow down for me in my photography since many of my sessions are outdoors, and I have chosen to enjoy this slower season and really give my family more of me. I've chosen to put my laptop away and to look my kiddos in the eyes when they have something to tell me. I've chosen to let the messy house wait while I play hide and seek with my littlest guy who thinks that hiding under a blanket while sitting up will stump me every time.  I've chosen to have more dance parties and play more Candy Land.  And with all the recent snow, I've chosen to put on my snow gear and build snowmen with my children.  And let's not forget my husband!  I've chosen to watch movies with him and cuddle close rather than stay up late working on the next project.  It has been a wonderful season of rest and of enjoying my family that is growing up all too quickly!

I recently took a quiz on facebook.  The quiz was titled "Which Biblical Heroine Are You?" and I got Sarah.  In the description one part read,  "You somehow make everything you do look easy."  This made me chuckle because a few years ago I might have agreed with that statement.  I use to be extremely organzied.  My house was always clean.  I was caught up on everything from the house to scrapbooking, but now I'm always playing catch up.  My nights after the kids are in bed were once productive, now I sit and enjoy the quiet. I'm learning to embrace my season of "crazy" and realize that "caught up" often means I'm missing out on really living!

Running my photography business can be consuming.  It's easy to make comparisons, to dream about how to book more sessions, envy what another photographer has accomplished and the list goes on.  As a business owner I'm always thinking through and practicing how to improve.  But I'm discovering that at the end of the day, no matter how much I love that I get to take pictures and connect with others, making time for the people closest to me is my most rewarding accomplishment!

I hope that today in the midst of your season of "crazy" you are taking little moments to enjoy those close to you! Slowing down always changes my perspective and makes me a better wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend and let's not forget photographer!  While I am looking forward to warmer weather, fun outdoor photo sessions and photographing weddings I am thankful for this time to slow down and enjoy what is right in front of me.  I'm learning to be content!

Isaiah my oldest.  He is almost as tall as me and handsome as ever!

Just wanted to capture my perspective of "winter".

My Silly Valentine's

It isn't often that I take the time to do an actual photo session with my own kiddos.  It usually requires a lot of bribing, some tears and major frustration for all of us.  A week ago I had my studio set up for a session and my daughter and littlest guy sat down and said, "Take our pictures."  It was so easy and the smiles were natural so I thought why not give a planned session another try. Later in the week I picked out their attire, chose a simple Valentine's theme, bribed the kids with $2 to the dollar store and snapped some pictures.  I have to say this was by far the easiest photo session I have had with my kiddos. They were well behaved, focused, gave me lots of smiles and we even had fun! Yes, I said it...fun!  Micah, my youngest is a natural when it comes to getting pictures taken.  He is a ham with the camera and posed himself in many of the photos. I might be a little bias but all 3 of my kiddos are pretty darn cute! They are fun, energetic and often very silly!  Happy Valentine's Day from me to you. Enjoy my silly valentine's!

This is what I mean by silly!

Liana {2014 Senior}

I met Liana the day of her senior session.  Liana was a ton of fun to work with. She came to her session unsure about getting her pictures taken and left a pro with being in front of the camera.  The temperatures the day of her photo shoot were quite cold so we only braved the outdoors long enough to get some fun winter shots.  We got the best of both worlds, indoor and outdoor shots. She ROCKED her session! Not only is she absolutely gorgeous and has the coolest hair style, she was easy to talk to and extremely sweet.  The pictures are proof of how amazingly stunning she is!  Thank you Liana for the privilege of taking your senior pictures!
